Does the inability to marry affect your relationship?

Lots of couples live in very serious, committed relationships long term without getting married. I think the inability to get married is just an excuse you use for the fact you are either not the monogamous type, or that you have not yet found the right partner for you. If you did want a same sex marriage, there are countless countries where you could go and do it.
